Serving Umdloti one avo at a time.
Need an avo? In Umdloti, there’s only one place to go.

If you’ve ever spent time in Umdloti – or even just stayed long enough to crave an avocado – chances are you’ve heard it: “Go to the Avo Guy.” No directions, no map. Just a name everyone knows.
Since 1997, the Mdletshe brothers have been serving up more than just buttery, delicious avos – they’ve been serving a community.
What began as a humble roadside stall, started by Deo and Petros when they were just teenagers, has grown into a quiet fixture in Umdloti’s daily rhythm.
From first light to sundown, one of the brothers – most often Petros these days – is there. The stand runs 6AM to 6PM. Rain or shine. Avos are stacked with care, ripening in a perfectly timed order.
They’ve recently added chips and other snacks to the table – and if you’re lucky, you might spot some madumbies too.
Their “AVOS – IT’S GOOD FOR YOU” sign has become a landmark in its own right.

What many don’t see is what it takes to get there.
The Mdletshe family lives in Maphumulo – over 80km inland. Each week, the brothers taste and source the best avos from small-scale farmers, hire a vehicle, and make the long drive to the coast. The stall supports not just their own families, but local growers too.
And that’s just it. This isn’t just a fruit stand – it’s a living thread in the story of Umdloti. Holding strong through seasons, storms, and all the change this town has seen.
So next time you pass the stall, stop. Grab a bag. Share a smile. Support something that’s been here longer than most holiday homes – and made with far more heart. Because in a fast-changing world, some things – and definitely some people – are worth slowing down for.
